The History of Gold Refining

JRG Inc. provides efficient gold refining services for you, but did you know that gold refining has a history that dates back to the earliest humans? That’s right! For many millenniums, people have been working hard to get the purest gold available.

The earliest gold refining attempts can be traced back to the Nahal Qanah Cave and dates back to the 4th millennium BC. This said, refining was generally not practiced until the 6th century. Coins found in the area known as Sardis – which is now Turkey – show the first actual evidence of silver and gold parting. The first literary reference to the parting process is located in the Arthasastra, an ancient Indian treatise.

After this description, many literary references are made to the salt cementation process of gold parting. In the Medieval period, many detailed descriptions of this process were written. This salt process was the standard until the 16th century, when people started using sulphur, antimony, and mineral acids. In the 1800s, the Wohlwill process was developed and is still commonly used today.

If you need assistance with the gold refining process, you can come to JRG, Inc. Our team is ready to help you with your needs!
